I enjoyed this project more than the others. I generally favor Photoshop over Illustrator. I am interested to see how these landscapes look next to one another with the 5 inch horizon line.

I chose the artist Camilla D'Erirco. She origanally worked in cartoons, and now has a painterly style with a touch of anime. Most of her portraits are of girls and animals. I like the emotions and girly colors she uses in her work.

link reactions

  • I checked out Loretta Lux's website, and found her paintings to appear very realistic but with a very dreary, muted color palette. I was fascinated to learn that her works are not paintings, but photographs. Her choice of light, pose, subject, and surroundings bring a very lovely eerie feeling to her pieces. I enjoyed looking at her body of work.
  • Ordinary comics is a very clever. Simple 'pick-me-ups' can turn a bad day into a good day. I like this artist's devotion to what he does, even if he suffers from poor grammar. There is a lot of wisdom and inspiration to be taken from his daily comics.
  • The 1000 journals website is very valuable for providing extraordinary 2D artwork. It is an online example of the sketchbook projects we are assigned every week. Its cool to see a little tid-bit of a strangers life and thought process. This site is a very good reference that i will be visiting often.

Thanks for the great links!

Helvetica Movie

I never really thought about the fact that actual people design lettering and fonts. This movie got me thinking about all the little details that go into the look of a letter, word, and sentence. Even though it was quite slow, and somewhat boring, so is the idea of the 26 letters of the alphabet. I'm happy i saw a snip-it of this film, but probably wouldn't choose to view it again.

Although i was not quite looking forward to creating art on Microsoft Word, i thoroughly enjoyed this assignment. It's cool to see the full potential of new versions of software, and to have the opportunity to experiment. The online connection to everyone else's blogs is awesome. I am quite impressed at our classes use of Word. Overall, I would like to keep pushing the potential of word as a means to create art.
